A field experiment was carried out during kharif seasons of 1995 and 1996 to find out an effective weed management practice in transplanted rice. Closer planting (15 x 15 cm) alongwith pre-emergence application of butachlor 0.5 kg/ha or anilofos 0.2 kg/ha reduced the weed growth effectively and increased yield components and grain yield of rice and was comparable with the use of rotary weeder used at 25 DAT. The highest additional net return (Rs. 5135/ha) was obtained with application of butachlor 0.5 kg/ha alongwith closer planting. The return per rupee invested was highest (Rs. 7.45) with rotary weeder used at 25 DAT.
