Abstract

Conventional practice (three hoeings and weeding at 15, 30 and 45 days after planting) recorded significantly higher cane yield as compared to all other treatments. Pre-emergence application of either metribuzin or atrazine both at 1.0 kg ha−1 followed by trash mulching at 3.5 t ha−1 in between cane rows at 60 DAP provided effective control of weeds giving significantly lower weed dry matter with higher cane yield as compared to pre- and post-emergence application of 2,4-D, diuron, pendimethalene each at 1.0 kg ha−1 and oxyfluorfen 0.3 kg ha−1 which were statistically at par among themselves. The net profit was highest with conventional practice (Rs. 30310) followed by metribuzin+trash mulching (Rs. 28272) and atrazine+trash mulching (Rs. 27122).
