Field experiment was conducted during winter seasons of 1996–97 and 1997–98 to assess the effect of metsulfuronmethyl (MSM) alone and in combination with 2,4-D and surfactant on non-grassy weeds and wheat yield. Results revealed that weed control efficiency of MSM at 4.0 g ha−1 applied alone was similar to MSM at 2 g ha−1 applied with surfactant. Ready mix formulation of MSM+2,4-D at 2+250 g ha−1+Surfactant had weed control efficacy similar to ready mix formulation of MSM+2,4-D at 2.0+500 g ha−1+surfactant or MSM+2,4-D at 4.0+500 g ha−1. MSM alone was relatively better than 2,4-D applied alone. There was non-phytotoxic effect of any of the treatments on wheat crop at any stage. Application of ready mix formulation of MSM applied alone or in combination with 2,4-D and surfactant, being at par among them, had significantly more grain yield compared to application of 2,4-D alone at 500 g ha−1 ethyl ester or sodium salt.
