Abstract

Laboratory studies and field experiments were conducted at Annamalai University Experimental Farm to study the bio-efficacy of certain plant materials for controlling the weeds in rice nursery and main field. Eucalyptus leaf leachates at 3% concentration were highly inhibitory on seed germination of Echinochloa crusgalli (25%) and rice (45%). Eucalyptus at 5 t ha−1 caused significant reduction in weed density and biomass in rice nursery and main rice field favouring higher yield attributes and grain yields. Subabul at 5 t ha−1 performed similar to Eucalyptus. These treatments were significantly superior to butachlor alone.
