Cross sowing of pea (Aparna) depressed weed growth to the magnitude of 39.6% resulting in increased grain yield (17.6%) over uni-directional sowing. Sowing of field pea 20 cm apart followed by hand hoeing in inter row and removal of weeds from intra spaces manually recorded grain yield similar to that obtained under sowing 20 cm apart with hand weeding once and the cost involved was comparatively less in former (Rs. 940 ha−1) than in later (Rs. 1175 ha−1). Pendimethalin at 1 kg ha−1 prevented weed competition satisfactorily and yielded at par with manually weeded twice. Net monetary return maximized when crop was sown at 20 cm apart with two hand weedings (Rs. 8923 ha−1) followed by pendimethalin at 1kg ha−1 application (Rs. 6991 ha−1).
