Management of Ipomoea spp. and Other Weeds in Spring Planted Sugarcane under Uttaranchal Tarai

A field experiment was carried out at G. B. P. U. A. & T., Pantnagar during 1996–97 and 1997–98 to study the management of Ipomoa spp. and other weeds in spring planted sugarcane. Significantly lower density of Ipomoea spp. was recorded with atrazine at 2000 g ha⁻¹ applied just after hoeing, metsulfuron methyl at 4 and 6 g ha⁻¹ and chlorimuronethyl at 10 g ha⁻¹ applied as post-emergence as compared to weedy. The highest cane yield was recorded in weed-free plot. Among the herbicide treatments, atrazine at 2000 g ha⁻¹ applied just after hoeing provided effective control of weeds, recorded the lowest weed dry matter and gave at par cane yield with pre-emergence application of metribuzin at 1000 g ha⁻¹ and diuron at 1000 g ha⁻¹ applied just after hoeing.
