Efficacy of New Herbicides in Transplanted Rice (Oryza sativa) under Temperate Conditions of Kashmir

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during the kharif seasons of 2006 and 2007 on clay loam soils of the Research Farm of Faculty of Agriculture and Regional Research Station, Wadura of SKUAST, Kashmir, to test the efficacy of new herbicides in transplanted Shalimar rice-1. All the herbicidal treatments were significantly superior to weedy conditions. Hand weeding with a mean grain yield of 80.42 q/ha was superior to all other treatment combinations. Almix [8 g/ha 20 days after transplanting (DAT)] with a mean grain yield of 70.83 q/ha was significantly superior to metsulfuron-methyl 4 and 8 g/ha, chlorimuron-ethyl 4 and 8 g/ha and 2, 4-D 0.5 kg/ha. Almix provided 97.2, 22.6 and 60.0% control for broad-leaved, grasses and sedges, respectively, and enhanced the grain yield significantly by 89.7% over control. Among weed control treatments, almix 8 g/ha proved most profitable with net returns of Rs. 26269/ha and benefit: cost ratio of 1.46.
