Abstract

The role of corn (Zea mays L.) variety Ganga hybrid-3 in dissipation of 2-chloro-4-ethylamino-6-isopropylamino-S-triazine (atrazine) from sandy loam soil of Hissar was studied in the field and in a pot culture experiment in green house at Haryana Agricultural University, Hissar (Haryana). Atrazine residues were determined by chemical method. After 4 months of application of herbicide in the field the percentages were 1.2 and 1.6 for lkg/ha, 1.4 and 1.8 for 2kg/ha, 2.5 and 3,5 for 4kg/ha and 2.0 and 2.5 for 8kg/ha respectively in the year 1969–70 and 1970–71. In green house dissipation of herbicide occurred as first order interaction. Within four months, an average of about 97% of initially present atrazine disappeared from soil in corn pots. Soil in uncropped pots, at all rates of atrazine application had lost about 83% of initially present herbicide within a period of 4 months. Cropping with corn, accounted for losses about 14 per cent of the herbicide initially present.
