Abstract

Metoxuron [N-(3-chloro-4-methoxyphenyl) -N1-N1-dimethyl urea] was tested under different levels and time of application for control of Phalaris minor in wheat and also to find out residual effect on the germination and growth of maize, sorghum, paddy, sunflower, moong, urd, soybean and groundnut.

Application of metoxuron at 2.0 and 3.0 kg/ha sprayed between 25 and 40 days after sowing reduced significantly the population of Phalaris minor and the dry-matter produced by the weeds over weedy check. Reduced competition from weeds under these treatments resulted in increased grain yield which was significantly superior over weedy check.

No phytotoxicity was observed on maize, sorghum, paddy, soybean, moong, urd, sunflower and groundnut when planted immediately after the harvest of wheat.
