Abstract

Field investigations on the comparative performance of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) crop treated with pre-emergence application of alachlor in two formulations (EC and G) each at two levels (1.5 and 1.75 kg/ha) two methods of seeding (beds and ridges system) and two seed treatments (treated with activated charcoal and normal seed) were studied. The results showed that EC formulations was better than granular form, bed system of planting superior to ridges system with reference to selectivity to alachlor. Alachlor (ec) at 1.5 1/ha gave sufficient weed control and yielded 20.65 q/ha of seed cotton yield which is 1.32 q/ha more than higher dose of 1.75 1/ha of alachlor. Seed treatment with activated carbon gave early vigour of crop and resulted in increased yield of 3.98 q/ha over untreated seeds.
