Abstract

Weed control field trials were conducted on statistical basis in the heavy soils o Cotton Research Station, Amaravathi during the years 1972–74 in the late kharif seasons with cotton variety MCU-5. The results indicate that MSMA alone @ 2.45 kg/ha given as post-emergence spray twice during the crop period was found to be the best treatment which is on par with hand weeding. This was followed by alachlor pre-emergence and combination of MSMA with diuron, fluometuron @ 1.00 kg/ha as pre-emergence spray followed by MSMA @ 2.45 kg/ha as post-emergence spray was found to be best treat-ment both from the weed control as well as yield point of view during 1973–74. But this treatment will cost more than MSMA alone. As such MSMA @ 2.45 kg/ha alone is recommended.
