Abstract

Studies on weed control in lentil to compare cultural (weedings at different stages of crop growth) and herbicidal (alachlor, nitrofen, prometryne, metoxuron and amiben) methods were undertaken at Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. The results indicated that weeds can be effectively controlled by cultural method as well as herbicides. The herbicides, however, showed considerable variation in efficiency to reduce the weed infestation in different seasons. Prometryne at 0.50 kg/ha proved as efficient as weeding twice in respect of weed control and enhancing the grain production in lentil. Metoxuron also showed promising results in minimizing weed infestation.
