Abstract

The present study aimed ta evaluate the economics of laser land leveling technology in paddy and wheat crap in Punjab. The study was based an primary data collected from two districts viz. Ludhiana and Tarn Taran of Central Zone of Punjab for the year 2011–12. The data pertained to 80 farmers (40 adopters and 40 non-adopters of the laser land leveling technology) selected through multi-stage random sampling technique. To compare the resource-use efficiency the returns over variable costs were calculated for both adopters as well as non-adopters. The incremental increase in returns over variable cost was Rs. 3311 per ha in paddy crop, whereas it was Rs. 4268 per ha in wheat crop. The adoption of laser land levelling technology resulted into water saving of 28 and 12 per cent in paddy and wheat respectively. The yield of paddy and wheat was enhanced by 4.24 and 8.08 per cent respectively with the use of technology.
