Khonwar as referred by the local people is an institution of livestock related conflict resolution at the neighborhood level. This kind of institution traditionally exists in rural India. Many varieties of conflicts arise among the households in a neighborhood in our countryside. Conflicts arise: involving livestock are important ones among them. Conflicts range from a simple quarrel to a violent one. So, over the years society has experienced and evolved a way/means of settlement of the disputes having livestock, related origin. In rural India, khonwar has a distinguished role in society. It is a part of social life of Sundarban area of West Bengal.
