The traditional instrumentalities of communication have been giving way to the new ones and traditional messages are being converged through contemporary and new channels of mass communication. Thus, it can be said that in the Indian situation traditional and modern forms of communication are well integrated, on the one hand tradition is using modern communication technology in communicating traditional contents and universalizes the little traditions mass media technology, in urban situation however, modern mass media are playing more dominant role in socio-cultural life of the people. In India, a development message should be treated carefully so that it blends properly with the medium of traditional performing arts. This should be left to traditional performing arts and should not be dictated by the urban administrators. When the message blends properly with the natural these of the medium, the programme package may be meaningful. The traditional art forms have survived for centuries and they will survive in future for their flexibility and acceptability. They could be the media for social change and development in rural India.
