Abstract

In Indian society, elderly members show much interest in television programmes, people make fun of them. in any human society, there are set standards coded as to how one has to behave at a particular stage of life. The roles are clearly defined and assigned to a member in a society. These set standards of roles serve the basis on which a person behaviour is judged as good or appropriate. The value judgments thus formed does not allow highly intense television viewing behaviour for the elder. They are expected to spend much time doing religious activities rather than in recreation or pleasure giving ones. Hence, they may not show highly intense television viewing behaviour for fear of public criticism.
