Acquired immune Deficiency Syndrome or A IDS, as it is popularly known, is the new scourge of the last two decades of the twentieth century. The number of HIV positive cases registered in India by 2003 was reported to be 5.13 million, Ignorance and low level of awareness about the disease gave rise to the problem. In the absence of vaccine or cure communication strategies are most effective ways to develop awareness about HI V/A IDS.
Therefore, in this paper an attempt is made to discuss the effective communication sources which help in creating awareness regarding HIV/AIDS among women. The study was conducted in two slums of Agra district. Sample of 60 women respondents of reproductive age group were taken for the study. The study reveals that out of all mass media sources, television plays a most important role in dissemination of information. Other communication sources such as family members, relatives and neighbors are also important sources for creating awareness.
