Abstract

The Village epitomize the sole of India. With more than 60% of the Indian population living in rural areas, rural India reflects the very essence of Indian culture and tradition. A holistic development of India as a nation rests on a sustained and holistic development of rural India. Information and communication technology (ICT) has emerged as an effective facilitator in the development of any society and is a prime driving force in the growth of economies worldwide. In this context ICT have lot to offer to develop rural sector. This paper provides an account of some of the major initiatives particularly touching to the rural domain. It also highlights the impact of ICT efforts on the rural society.
