Abstract

The communication effectiveness, communication openness, imitativeness, and responsiveness were found to be significantly higher in PCDF as compared to SMB. The study further revealed that PCDF was more effective organization than that of SMB. On all studied criteria of effectiveness, viz. productivity, adaptability and flexibility, the PCDF had edge over SMB. In both the organizations, the extent of vertical communication was more than horizontal communication and in vertical Communication; the amount of downward communication was used most frequently. The extent of utilizing visual channels as well as audio-visual channels was much lower as compared to other channels. Experience, interpersonal trust, upward communication effectiveness was positively correlated with the organizational effectiveness. Besides, the study also highlighted many barriers to communication operating at different levels in both the organizations, like personal bias and prejudice of officials, age of superiors, casual approach of subordinates, lack of feedback etc.
