Analytical exploration of sugarcane production data for decision support: Data warehouse approach

To monitor and counter challenges in sugar industries, different government departments and agencies have the task to keep an eye on dynamic agricultural situations all around India, which result in, score of data generation on sugarcane production, consumption, requirement, sugar mills, population, agro met data, etc. The collected data due to is multivariate nature and disparate origins have never been integrated and thus do not provide a complete picture. For an efficient decision support, there should be some mechanism for analytical exploration of these data. The exploration task is to be supported by an efficient data storage and retrieval mechanism. In this paper; we have presented the Data Warehousing approach for this purpose in Sugarcane Production domain. We have briefly discussed the process we adopted for establishing the data warehouse. We have also tested capabilities of the data warehouse using two test cases. Concepts of data warehousing and its analytical exploration have been explained.
