Abstract

Knowledge management is concerned with organizing knowledge repositories for easy retrieval and exchange of the information stored therein. Recogniszing the information need of sugarcane growers during entire cycle of cultivation, knowledge management (KM) strategy has been explained in this paper. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) provide many techniques for KM such as data warehouse, data mining, OLAP, expert system, Internet, GIS, and Multimedia. Knowledge Management tools developed using ICT in sugarcane domain has been discussed. Experiences while development indicates ICT is a powerful mechanism for managing existing knowledge, analysis of huge data for knowledge discovery, mining of data for previously unknown patterns I knowledge and dissemination of information to remote locations. Such tools may assist subject matter specialist to assist farmer in taking decision in critical stages of sugarcane cultivation..
