Abstract

Some simple communication techniques were designed, implemented and evaluated on a sample of 200 mothers to improve the existing knowledge and practices in respect of nutrition during pregnancy, lactation and infant feeding in four villages of Varanasi. Subsequently, the pre and post evaluation status of existing knowledge and practice was studied. The communication Techniques consisted of lecture cum discussion method, T.V. film (Slide story), cooking demonstration on few low cost nutritious recipies. There is considerable improvement in the knowledge of mothers about the increased diet during pregnancy i.e. pre 38% to post 60%. Again there is a significant improvement in Breast feeding (colostrum feeding) practice from (pre) 0.3% to (post) 100%.
