CT has emerged as an indispensable tool of rural development in India during last one decade. We have seen the changes and impacts of communication technology tools like television, radio & most recently the internet technology on our society. With the proliferation of new technology and new innovations our society is always in the direction of change. At the same time we should not forget that development couldn't be conceived without improving status of rural women in the society. This. is because of two reasons: first they constitute half of population. Second, it is they who share the burden of poverty. Yet the processes, methods and technologies employed by them have not undergone much improvement. Lack of access to technologies and access to credit, apart from illiteracy, are experienced by poor women in their struggle to come out of poverty. Technological empowerment of rural poor is widely recognized as a crucial clement in strategy for overall empowerment of poor women.
Towards empowering poor women ICT can make remarkable contribution with underlying assumptions that ICT significantly contribute to agricultural and rural development where women are the “greatest good ”. In India several ICT based projects are already in operation, which are making voiceless and asset less women more heard and economically empowered. Lots more are needed to replicate the success stories of these ICT based women empowerment projects in larger area of rural India to bring rural poor women in the main stream of development.
