Abstract

Communication through various modes is a means for development. It is the endeavour of researchers to develop different technologies that are useful for the farmers to enhance productivity, as well as, for sustainable development. The Indian Institute of Horticulture Research has been involved in this direction; developing various technologies, varieties, products etc over the years. These technologies need to be communicated to the clients without much delay. Keeping in mind the limited resources available with any research organization in terms of time, as well as money, by training the subject matter specialist, development officers and extension officers is the first step to formulate the technologies. In turn these officers take the viable technologies to farmers. At the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research training of development department officers is taken up on priority. As a consequence of this an attempt was made to assess the IIHR training programmes in terms of increased knowledge of trainees. Six topics were randomly selected and in all responses were collected from thirty six trainings on the selected topics from four hundred and three respondents. The study showed a significant increase in the knowledge of the trainees.
