Impact of television on children habits in urban area of Varanasi

The research paper investigates the relationship between Television programs, time duration, preference of time and opinion of mothers and children related with the various impacts of television. Television has a major impact on children. It influences their viewing habits throughout their lives. Since, children have strong preference for cartoon and other programs that have characters that move fast, there is considerable like hood that they will be exposure to large amount of violence The study was made in two different facets with the children and their mothers. A sample size of hundred (100) was selected by random sampling method. Respondents were interviewed with a structured questionnaire to elicit information on the various impacts of television i.e. learning social attitude, improving reasoning power and intelligence, ignorance of outdoor game, increasing aggressive behavior. The collected data was classified, tabulated and statistically processed with the help of percentage and correlation with SPSS Version 10.0 The study has revealed that the majority of mothers and children are of the opinion that T.V. is an obstacle to outdoor games. It also reveals that mother of the opinion that T.V. has increased the aggressive behavior of child, but children do not agree with this.
