Human society today is facing a threat from new kinds of diseases such as AIDS. Acquired Immune Deficiency syndrome is a condition which gradually destroys the body's immune deface system and make the body vulnerable to opportunistic disease. The first case of HIV/AIDS was detected in 1986, several crores have been spent on creating awareness and managing the disease but still no realistic admission of the problem and no one is even sure of how many have been affected by this source. The awareness level among the most vulnerable section, the adolescents, is absolutely low. The results indicate that the adolescents have a considerable level of knowledge but these findings cannot be used as the criteria to explain the awareness of majority of the population because this study was conducted on a small sample from a place where they get higher education which is not in he reach of every individual and their status affects their level of knowledge to a great extent. The adolescents who are illiterate or do not get sufficient exposure to the media and the proper knowledge, still remain unaware of the facts about this disease.
