Abstract

Information is any material in any form: records, documents, memos, e-mails, opinions, advices, press releases, circulars, orders, logbooks, contracts, reports, papers, samples, models, data material in any electronic form, information relating to any private body which can be accessed by a public authority. Information is a very powerful tool as it is rightly said that knowledge is wealth. This very notion of power becomes even more evident in case of education. The present generation needs to be motivated about the use of this prolifically mediated weapon to fight against red tapism and to get a hawk eye view of the opaque and rigid administrative system. This paper elucidates the extent of awareness about RTI act among the respondents with the locale of study as BHU.

Right to Information legislation is still in its infancy. There is an urgent need to build awareness on this issue and build demand for information. "A stitch in time will save nine"
