Abstract

Rural women accounts for more than half of the food produced. However, it is assumed, that men produce the world food and women prepare it for the table. Another paradox is that when food is short, men are given the first preference since they are believed to carry out the heavy work, But in reality women work greater number of hours than men and her nutritional requirements are not much different from that of men. The present research was carried out in Kolar district of Karnataka state, which is located in the eastern dry zone of the state with the objective to know the communication pattern of the male and female horticulture farmers and their relationship with time utilization pattern and decision making. Kolar district consist of five taluks viz., Bangarpet, Kolar, Malur, Mulbagal and Srinivasapura. Out of these two taluks Malur and Srinivasapura were purposively selected for the study. Two villages were selected randomly from each of the selected taluks of Kolar district. Thus, the final sample comprised of 4 villages and 120 respondents. Age, land holding, education, and social participation were associated with decision making among male and female respondents. Family education status had a significant relationship with male respondents only, whereas, cosmopoliteness was significantly correlated with decision making of the female respondents.
