Abstract

Maharashtra is one of the forerunner states, as far as dairying is concerned. Initiatives like "Warna Wired Village" demonstrated the effective contribution of an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure to the socio-economic development of the villages in the state. Automating milk collection system brought demonstrable benefits to farmers and local dairy cooperatives, increasing efficiency, transparency and fairness, and speed of payment. The present study was conducted to study the use of Information Communication Technologies by the commercial dairy farmers of Maharashtra. The results of study revealed that automating milk collection system was used by majority of respondents followed by Dairy Information System and Information kiosk. However, it was found that the use of ICT was higher in western region than that of eastern region in the study area.
