Abstract

Of late, social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace have become important tools during election campaigning. Their extensive use in the recently held general elections in India have led many to consider them as future channels of political communication. The present paper, after examining their usage by Bharatiya Janata Party (India), Aam Aadmi Party (India) and the Democrats (USA), tries to estimate the actual, as against the perceived potential of these online forums.
