Use of communication media in diversity of boro rice in haor areas of Bangladesh

Abstract

It was revealed that use of interpersonal media was the highest (63.46%) in receiving rice related information by the farmers of haor area followed by group media (24.66%) and mass media (11.88%). The overwhelming majority (81%) of the farmers cultivated 2 to 4 rice varieties, 8.% had single variety and only 11% farmers cultivated more than 4 varieties. Among the varieties, BRRI dhan28 ranked first in respect to number of farmers (100%) and areas (72.43%) cultivated. Overwhelming majority (81%) of the farmers had moderate to high rice varietal diversity while 8% had no rice varietal diversity and only 14% of the farmers had high rice varietal diversity. This varietal diversity was significantly correlated with the use of communication media.
