Abstract

The study revealed that growers exhibited various behaviours while purchasing the inputs for vegetable cultivation. The findings can be used for preparing a road map to reach the farmers effectively. For that purpose, the study suggested that extension personnel must be well equipped with market led extension and social marketing and they should also train the dealers to help the farmers. By studying the buying behaviour of the vegetable growers, it can be summarised that the majority of the vegetable growers give the preferences of the consumers, which were generally evaluated by following the previous year's trend. It was found that most of the cases, the respondents took the advice of the input dealers instead of extension personnel which is not a good sign for the public extension system.
