Abstract

Cleft palate (Palatoschisis) is a developmental disorders that involves incomplete fusion of hard palate posterior to incisive foramen and/or soft palate. It is usually corrected by palatal reconstructive surgery and a prosthodontist provide a surgical palatal obturator at the time of surgery. A surgical obturator is a prosthesis designed to replace the missing structural components of maxillary arch including the palate and associated dentoalveolar structure. It is placed at the time of surgery.

This case report describes fabrication of temporary palatal surgical prosthesis for a patient who has to undergo palatal reconstructive surgery for cleft palate. This prosthesis will help the patient during swallowing of food and phonetics.
