Reading habits and literacy attitudes of District Central Library Users in Tamilnadu

Abstract

The public library is viewed as a social service centre to offer an effective and free library service to the people. The key objective of the Public library is to make its resources available to the readers to the maximum extent. Public Libraries adopt various techniques to enhance the reading habits of the general public and satisfy the information needs of the users of the district central library. The present study is to analyze the reading habits of the selected respondents and their literacy attitude towards the resources available and approach of staff in the Tirunelveli district central library. The researcher selected 120 respondents, who are users of the district central library and residing in Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai by adopting simple random sampling techniques.
