Critically ill patients are at higher risk for developing pressure ulcers. The purpose of this study was to determine incidence of pressure ulcer in critically ill patients in Intensive Care Unit in Iran and determine factors related to this incidence.
1104 critically ill patients who were admitted in Intensive Care Unit during 2009/1/1 to 2010/1/1 were investigated. For determine incidence of pressure ulcer and related factors we used record shit that record complete information about patients. Statistical analysis: A Kolmogorov-Smirnov test indicated that the data were sampled from a population with normal distribution. Data was analyzed by descriptive and κ square test in SPSS 18.
Incidence of pressure ulcer was 5.34%. We found 11 sore sites. Sacrum area was the most common site (37.3%). Incidence of pressure ulcer was not related to age & sex. Mean of ICU stay in patients who developed pressure ulcers were higher.
The results of this research showed that incidence of pressure ulcer in Iran Intensive Care Units is lesser in contrast with global incidence.
