The glucosamine is known for its analgesic & anti inflammatory properties in osteoarthritis knee, but its effect is not studied in case of temporomandibular arthritis. In this study we have evaluated the role of glucosamine on pain in patients with temporo mandibular arthritis.
A cross sectional clinical & radiological study was planned and 17 subjects were included in study. All patients were given 1200mg of glucosamine for at least 6 weeks or till they become pain free.
Out of total 17 subjects, ten males have improved linkert pain score from 4 to 2 while two males improved this from 5 to 1; at the same time females had improved linkert visual pain score from 4 to 2. The p value in studied group was <.00001 which shows a good effect of glucosamine in temporomandibular arthritis.
Our study has shown a good effect of glucosamine on pain in temporomandibular arthritis. So this is a comparative safe agent which can be used for relief of pain in temporomandibular arthritis.
