Abstract

The rarest of the endometrial stromal tumors, the endometrial stromal nodule is a benign tumor composed of well differentiated endometrial cells forming a well circumscribed nodule with large smooth non infiltrative margins. If sizable smooth muscle differentiation is present (one third or more of the tumor mass) the neoplasm is referred to as combined smooth muscle-stromal tumor or nodular stromomyoma. Stromomyomas are distinctly uncommon tumors. The article describes the morphological features of this rare tumor entity discovered as an incidental finding in a hysterectomy specimen of a 42 year old female with a clinical diagnosis of fibroid uterus.
