The belief that caste ideology over values ‘karma’-a species of other worldlines; or that the caste system orders a hierarchy which universally legitimizes the position of each caste; or that the caste system looks down upon competition and conflict; or that the caste system differentiate on the principle of purity and pollution: are all closely interlinked and govern our conceptual understanding. The emphasis in this paper is to analyze various ideologies concerning caste system which emphasis on its continuity and change.
