Abstract

In the present study it has been tried to examine the extent of women's participation in politics. Effort has also been made to understand the socio-economic characteristics of those women who are participating in politics. The study is based on primary data collected from interview schedule. Meerut district has been selected for the study. In this district 120 pradhans have been selected. It has been found in the study that women with younger age group are more active in political participation than women in higher ages. The rate of political participation of women is positively associated with their economic status. The findings of the study reveal that the women of the society are becoming more and more active in field of politics. This is a positive sign for women's empowerment in the society.
