Islam and Environmental Protection

Religion plays a major role-as a harbinger of ethical and moral values. As key repositories of civilizational values, religions can have an important role to play in preaching about environmental ethics. So when the global environmental crises is demanding the attention of human kind with ever increasing urgency, attempts have been made to deal with this crises through a variety of channels such as science, technology and religion. Every major religion contains values, beliefs and ethics that support a conservation ethics Islam is one such Religion which is developing worldviews and ethics that shape our attitudes towards nature. It incorporates teachings that relate to the harmonious existence of humans with their natural environment. This study is an attempt to explore the ethics of environmental protection as preached in Islam.
