Education and Political System: A Theoretical Framework

India is a democratic country and in democracy heads are counted and not the brains. For a transparent democracy it is quite essential to have a sound political system free from defect and short-comings and where it is not so, efforts should be made to clean it up. The present trend of working and formulating policies for the politicians and corporate bodies must change. We have been observing that least concern is shown to the masses because legislative forums no longer have committed dedicated, good intentioned, selfless and honest statesmen and stalwarts. This is just because that anybody, illiterate, semi literate, literate or the so-called literate and even criminal with chequered history may seek admission to Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and State Assemblies. Menace of candidates with past criminal records seeking entry into the legislative bodies may be curbed to a great extent. For cleansing the present political system some effective and corrective steps would have to be taken. Strong Government and strong opposition are quite necessary for a good democratic system, like in USA and UK there are two parties only. It is a sad state of affairs that due attention has not been paid to basic and primary education what to say of free education. No doubt, there has been a mushroom growth of technical and management institutions but primary education which is the foundation of a child has been neglected a lot. When the basic and primary education is poor, the higher education will also be poor. The present paper discusses the problems of Indian political system and proposes some suggestive measures in perspective of education system of India.
