Abstract

With the twin objectives of improving nutrition and education of the school children, India has started an ambitious Mid Day Meals as the provision of free of cost lunch programme for school-children of 1st to 8th standard on all working days. Now the study tries to assess to what extent this programme has been able to achieve its objectives. The study depends on the cross sectional longitudinal data of randomly selected seven hundred thirty six children of 6 to 13 years age group from govt. primary and upper primary schools. Here this study reports that the MDMs have achieved success to contribute nutritional contents for children, to increase their daily attendance in the school, to impart positive habits among them and to provide employment opportunities for vulnerable sections in rural scenario.
