Impact of Emigration on Aged Left behind: A study

International migration often results in families left behind in the countries of origin of migration. The data show that the young members of the family emigrate first leaving behind the elderly back home. The social, psychological and economic impact of emigration on the elderly left behind after emigration of other family members has not been given much attention by the sociologists. This article is based upon the primary data collected from villages of Punjab. It shows that the elderly have gained in terms of economic benefits from emigration and also have gained social status in the society, however most of them are feeling lonely and need psychological security.
