Abstract

Nationalism is a modern ideology. European ideology is confined only to specific area based on cultural and linguistic equality. On the contrary ideology of Indian nationalism is associated with economic, social and political cumpulsions and it has its root in Indian freedom movement. Mahatma Gandhi's ideology of nationalism was more ‘inclusive’ which included communities of diveres caste, culture and religion. After the formation of new government at the centre issue of nationalism is in the forefront. Now it is the right time for the Indians to decide which concept of nationalism they are in favour of- ‘exclusive nationalism’ of specific religion or caste or ‘inclusivenationalism'of Gandhi? Future of India is safe in adapting Gandhian ideology of nationalism.
