Abstract

Education, particularly ‘quality education’ has now received much attention after the spurt in quantification in education. It has been realised worldwide that ‘improving all aspects of the quality of education and ensuring excellence of all’ is the only way of participating in the global knowledge society. But those who are unable to participate in or are excluded from the quality education are the first generation school goers. The first generation school goers are those children who get the opportunity to step into the arena of education for the first time after many generations. Due to their first time access to education they face many difficulties outside the school and within the school. The present study encompasses the first generation school goers of Onda block of Bankura district in west Bengal.
