Abstract

Child Care Institutions (CCIs) are set-up under the provisions of Juvenile Justice Act. These CCIs are entrusted to provide home like facilities to all the children who are in need of care & protection and sheltered by Child Welfare Committees. In these CCIs significant number of children with disabilities who are in need of care & protection are also sheltered due to non-availability of other specialized institutional services or care facilities. Keeping these in view, the Central Government Supported, Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) has also provisions of additional financial support to the CCIs having children with special needs. The study was conducted with main objective to assess situation of children with disabilities in childcare institution in context of child rights; study the service delivery mechanism provided to children with disabilities in Child care Institutions; and suggest measures and suggestions for providing effective care and rehabilitation services to the children with disabilities in childcare institutions. The study was conducted in all the state government run childcare institutions of Uttar Pradesh.
