Literature and Cinema are two important pillars of creative arts which have impacted society for a very long time. The interrelationship between cinema, literature and society is very interesting and sometimes it seems to be like a love triangle. But cinema, having its aim to be entertainment, has made a larger impact on the society due to its greater outreach. Cinema has often addressed various social issues but there is an important issue which always destabilizes the comfort zone of Indian cinema; which is ‘the problems of elderly’. This is an issue where cinema gets strangled and looks uncomfortable. This research paper tries to discuss the various aspects of the life of elderly people in Indian society taking the reference to different movies of Hindi cinema. There are movies which have addressed this problem albeit they don't come under mainstream cinema; e.g. Saaransh, Ek Din Achanak, Rui Ka Bojh etc. In fact, these movies are nothing but the reflection of the condition of elderly people in our society which can be called pathetic because there is much formalism while addressing their problems. Despite having strict legislation, there is very little which has been done to address this issue. What we need to do is to give this problem an important place in the mainstream literature, cinema and discourse and then only an enlightened society can be formed which will take care of its older generation.
