Folk-beliefs are an important aspect of the folk-culture. In today's scientific age it can be called ‘superstition’ but its roots are so deep that any person who is part of society finds it difficult to alienate himself from these beliefs. These expressions of folk-beliefs, rituals etc. are always intended to ensure the well being of the society. Since the primitive age, it has been the belief of people that behind the happenings and events of daily life, there is some invisible power; because of that only we face epidemics, diseases etc. Ghosts, black magic, evil-eye etc. are believed to be the reasons for many inauspicious happenings. This paper is a study of such common beliefs prevalent in our society and is an attempt to find out the reasons for the sound footing of such beliefs.
