Other knowledge systems or indigenous knowledge systems are vast array of informations, understandings and interpretations developed by human societies across the globe and are the outcome of experiences and explanations regarding their environment they are inhabiting. These are deeply embedded in local/indigenous traditions of the communities. These informations play very important role in decision making of the local masses and create an important bases for sustainable development in such communities. The present paper applying anthropological methods of fieldwork attempts to inerpret indigenous knowledge system of the Jaunsarese and the Gaddis of Uttarakhand Himalayas. The indigenous knowledge of these communities is of paramount importance as the world needs sustainable solution of its problems and only use of these sustainable solutions and approaches will ensure the well being of human being in the long run.
