Criticism works as a connecting bridge between reader and literature. And thus the role of critiques becomes of much importance as he/she has to present the things before the reader in the right perspective. In this regard recalling Marx becomes pertinent who said that true criticism should be free of all prejudices. Another important duty of a critique is to do the review of existing traditions which are often expressed in the literature as well. Here reviewing the traditions doesn't mean altogether rejecting them or eulogizing them rather going for an honest evaluation of those. Hindi literature has a rich tradition of criticism and this criticism has been multifaceted. But with the advent of market forces, literature is getting converted into an industry where means become more important than the ends. And in such kind of setup, it becomes challenging to retain the high standards of literature in general and criticism in particular. This paper is a study of such multiple dimensions of criticism in Hindi literature.
